Holiday Beauty Inspiration: Metallic Lips

The holidays are slowly approaching I am trying to find as much style and beauty inspiration for the season as I possibly can. I'm sure readers are doing the same for the upcoming holiday parties, Scorpio/Sagittarius or Capricorn birthdays, a night out on the town with Santa and his elves( or maybe just your girlfriends), dinner, shows e.t.c. Its one of the most wonderful times of the year therefore we're required to have the most fabulous holiday style and makeup ideas. The Chic Notebook  will be giving you readers much inspiration for the approaching holiday season. 

Its rare to find lipsticks with a naturally vintage look and feel to it. So when I saw this model from Rodarte's Spring 2010 collection on TeenVogue my thoughts were that it is probably less wearable but with the perfect pigment, pout, hair and makeup as well as the head to toe ensemble it can totally work.

Beauty 101: Try A Dark Berry Lip

Before I go all out to educate and inform you that a dark berry lip is one of this season's hottest stains for the above skin tones, I will also let you know that I'm a rookie at wearing bold lips. If you're an avid reader of this blog you would remember my tips and ideas on wearing brights lacquers but as gorgeous as they looked on the face of Beyonce or Rihanna I was still reluctant to try a bold lip. A little inspiration from PurpleALaMode (for my favorite MAC lavender shade) and TheStyleAndBeautyDoctor (the hottest YSL vintage red ever) I now consider myself a pro and would rock any shade that works well with my complexion if you dare. With that being said, I've met people just like myself who has a hard time pumping up the boldness in their shades. My advice, take it one hue at a time eventually and eventually you'll get there. 

Okay, so I love this shade. Like I really do love this dark berry lip color. The perfect day and night lacquer! and to avoid looking to dark, go soft on the eyes. Well defined lashes, nude exterior gives this look a perfect finish and less gothic.

Look Of The Day: Raven Symone

Think of Raven Symone as the queen of minimalist. Whether its red carpet, appearances, tv, her ensembles are always so minimal yet energetic just as her character. Celebrity DJ Beverly Johnson brought the celebrities out on the pink carpet for the annual Black Girls Rock event in NYC. It's an award show honoring primarily ladies in entertainment  who has made a lasting impression on the community. This time around Black Girls Rock has collaborated with BET to bring you this exciting event that will empower the youth. Raven Symone has definitely inspired many, she's made it cool to be the good successful girl in Hollywood so BGR salutes her.

Back to her ensemble... Raven wore a bright green, simple A line dress paired with a black straped heel. 

What throws the look together perfectly is her effortless hair and makeup. Her flowing curls with burnt edges adds character to her entire ensemble. Groomed eye brows, smokey eyes, and a fresh nude lip has this starlet glowing. So feminine, so flirtatious, yet edgy. Love the look...

Chic Pick: Benefit Gloss

Before I owned almost every swatch of MAC cosmetic lipstick I was a lipgloss nerd. The glistening of my makeup kit was out of control and I could only trust a few brand to give me the luxe shimmering hue that I was looking for. Luckily I've been a fan of BENEFIT's packaging so whenever I get to Bloomingdale's this counter would be on my "visit" list. Ladies, there are days when we have no time in the name of beauty and a five minute face is all we can spare. The Nude Lip

I love a nude lip but it has to be the right swatch and the right texture. I also love when makeup looks so effortless, fresh and clean. I'm a color fanatic but The Chic Report wont endorse walking around with clown makeup. Its the summer time and as our clothes gets brighter our makeup needs to be as toned down as possible. We've posted tips and insights on the famous Red/ Purple/ Orange Lip but now its time for a more refined look. Want this look? Here are a few tips:

1. A CLEAN FACE, and by that I do not mean just a dab of neutrogena a rinse and then call it a day. Tyra showed us how to clean the lip with petroleum jelly and an old soft bristol toothbrush to remove excess skin from the surface of your lip. Try it, it works.

2. CONTOUR. A great linning is essential. A dab of concealer will help.

3. PICK THE RIGHT SWATCH. The color of your skin doesnt mean the color of your skin. Whatever hue you try on has to look as natural as possible. For instance someone whose dark in complexion may have a lighter or in my case pink lip surface. Try multiple colors and cosmetic brands to find the right lipstick.

Beauty Chic: H and M Skin Care

Did you know that H and M now sells skin care products? If you're looking for affordable skin treatments for daily use then stop by the nearest H and M store. These flavored organic apple, raspberry and lemon, lavender and mint, fresh vanilla comes in hand cream, lip balm, shower gel etc... and its sizable for the lady on the go.

Look Of The Day: Letoya Luckett

The former Destiny's Child songstress hit the Hollywood red carpet last night for the premier of Killers starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Letoya Luckett looks stunning in this dress but her hair and makeup is just flawless. I love the nude lip with this bold eye... The Chic Report approves.

Beauty: The Orange Lip

I'm addicted to the MAC counter! There I said it... lol. I'm always looking for new colors and textures when it comes to wearing lipstick, whether matte or glossy, bold or neutral it has to look right and feel right. Lately the orange lip has become a red carpet/runway beauty phenomena and its taking the cosmetic clan by storm. This look is best kept with a nude face, and its also important when pairing the tangerine hue to accent it with bold eye lashes. Pull out the mascara in this case maybe more than one, or fake lashes could work if you know how to put it on.

My pick: MAC retails at $14.99. I own this product so I'm a bit bais when it comes to recommendations but I'm sure there are great finds at other cosmetic brands. Try NARS, MAC, or BENEFIT if you're looking to create this look.

Chic Beauty Pick: MAC Loose Golden Bronzer

I'm very particular with what types makeup I use and I absolutely love M.A.C products. I watched a tutorial online recently and one of the products the makeup artist used to add her finishing touches to the model was this golden loose bronzer from MAC ... With the results of the before and after shoots I headed to the MAC Counter at Macy's the next day to get the product. A simple yet sultry golden freshness is what I saw after applying this bronzer lightly to all the spots where the sun naturally shines, the forehead, nose, cheeks etc. Bronzer is a must have in any makeup kit regardless of the brand, texture, or color. This particular bronzer brings out a warm natural glow to your skin and its important that you apply it adequately. With the right short fluffy brush from your collection apply light powder blowing off excess powder. Too much bronzer applied to the face will leave you looking extra shiny, too golden therefore it wont match your skin tone. If you're looking for products to add to your makeup kit then give the MAC GOLDEN LOOSE BRONZER a try. You will love it!

M.A.C officially announced their new line with luxury accessory brand "Liberty of London", which is the latest in a series of famous collabortions. Slated to launch in the US on March 11th, the collection will include a kaleidoscope of colored eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, blush, beauty powder and nail polish and to top it off two exclusive products: makeup bag and scarf. Willow Smith's New Hair Do

Designer Lilly Pulitzer teams up with MAC to create a line of polishes, glosses and shadows called Lillyland. This floral design inspired collection will rang from $12 to $32 with refreshinly bright, fun and colorful products.
The collection hits stores on January 7th.
